1. Y C Modi named NIA chief.

  • Senior IPS officer Y C Modi has been named the Chief of the National Intelligence Agency(NIA).
  • He will take over from Sharad Kumar after he completes his tenure on October 30.

2. India- Japan sign open sky agreement.

  • India and Japan signed an agreement that will allow their airlines to operate unlimited number of flight between two countries.
  • This agreement will open skies between India and Japan i.e. Indian and Japanese airlines can mount unlimited number of flights to the selected cities.

3. Only Marshal of IAF, Arjan Singh passed away.

  • The sole Marshal of the Indian Air Force, Arjan Singh, passed away at the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital.
  • An officer who shaped the IAF in its early years as well as during some of its most difficult junctures, Arjan Singh had the honour of leading the fly-past of more than a hundred IAF aircraft over the Red Fort on India’s first Independence Day, August 15, 1947.

International News

1. US-UAE began their joint military exercise Iron Union 5.

  • The US and UAE’s ground forces had begun a joint military exercise in Abu Dhabi, as part of efforts to consolidate their bilateral relations and exchange training and Military expertise.
  • The exercise aims to upgrade and boost the readiness of the UAE’s armed forces and to allow both armie to promote their international co-operation in joint military operations.

2. Iceland’s Prime Minister Bjarni Benedictsson resigns.

  • Prime Minister of Iceland Mr. Bjarni Benedictsson has resigned from the post.
  • He lost his nine-month-old, center-right coalition after one party quit.

3. Sushma Swaraj to represent India in UN General Assembly session.

  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will attend annual UN General Assembly session in New York.
  • India’s permanent representative to the UN is Mr. Syed Akbaruddin.

Business News

1. Google launches mobile wallet and payments app ‘Tez’ in India.

  • Google launched a mobile wallet and payments app ‘Tez’ in india that will let users link their phones to their bank accounts to pay for goods in Physical Stores and online.
  • The app also allows person to person money transfer.

2. India may introduce digital Crypto currency ‘Lakshmi’.

  • The Indian government is considering a proposal to introduce its own crypto currency ‘Lakshmi’ similar to Bitcoin.
  • Interestingly, if proposal is carried out, the crypto currency will fall under the domain of RBI.

3. Airtel Payments Bank becomes first payment bank to integrate UPI on its Digital Platform.

  • Sunil Mittal driven Airtel Payments Bank integrated Unified Payments Interface(UPI) on its digital platform allowing customer choice and convenience to facilitate secure digital payments.
  • Notably, Airtel Payments Bank is India’s first Payment Bank.

Sports News
1. Lewis Hamilton wins Singapore GP.

  • Lewsi Hamilton, Mercedes’ British F-1 Driver registered his 60th career win at the Singapore Grand Prix.
  • With this win he extended his lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel at the top of the table by 28 points.

2. India take 1-0 series lead in five match ODI series.

  • India defeated Australia by 26 runs (D/L method) in the first ODI in Chennai to take 1-0 series lead in the five-match series.
  • The victory was India’s tenth consecutive in International Cricket.
