1. Himachal Pradesh first state to launch electric bus service.

  • The Himachal Pradesh government launched first of its kind Electric Bus service in the 51-km long stretch road between Manali and Rohtang pass.
  • The main objective is to curb pollution by reducing carbon emission which I sresulting in mlting of glaciers of Himalayas.

2. First indigenously build Scorpene Submarine INS Kalvari delivered to navy.

  • The first of the Scorpene class submarine, INS Kalvari was delivered to Indian Navy by Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.
  • The submarine will be soon commissioned in the Navy’s feet.

3. Rajkumar Rao’s Newton chosen as India’s official entry to Oscars 2018.

  • The Rajkyumar Rao starrer black comedy film ‘Newton’ has been selected as India’s official entry in the best foreign language film category at Oscars 2018.
  • Directed by Amit Masurkar, the film revolves around a government clerk on election duty in a naxal controlled town.

International News

1. Britain and Saudi Arabia signed military co-operation deal.

  • Britain and Saudi Arabia signed a framework deal for military co-operation.
  • The agreement comes as Britain seeks to explore lucrative trade deals outside Europe, including energy-rich Gulf Monarchies, after voting to leave EU.

2. Trump announces new economic sanctions against N Korea.

  • US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that will target entities that finance and facilitate trade with N Korea.
  • The order will target N Korea’s textiles, fishing and manufacturing industries among others.

3. Protest against Philippine’s President’s dictatorship.

  • Around 8000 people marched in the Philippines in protest against President Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership which they claim is the emergence of Dictatorship.
  • This comes after Duterte threatened imposition of Martial law in the country to fight war against drugs.

Business News

1. India growing pretty robustly: WB President.

  • World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said that India has been growing pretty robustly and there is now leveling-out in developing economies.
  • World Bank is Washington headquartered international organization which provides loans to countries for economical programs.

2. India becomes top retail destination.

  • Replacing China, India becomes top retail destination in 2017, according to Industry experts.
  • The change in ranking was an outcome of four factors including increased consumer spending, beyond essentials, rising mobile and internet penetration, favourable foreign investment climate and bold action on cashless transaction and GST.

3. Indian government to strengthen “Korea Plus” cell.

  • To increase the FDI inflows from South Korea, GOI has taken decision of strengthening “Korea Plus” cell.
  • “Korea Plus” is a strategic initiative between the Governments of India and South Korea “to promote, facilitate and retain Korean investments in India.”

Sports News
1. India register second win against Australia.

  • India registered its second successive win against Australia to become the number one ranked ODI team.
  • India defeated Australia by margin of 50 runs. Notably, Kuldeep Yadav became third Indian bowler to take an ODI hat-trick.

2. Australia invited for Asian Games 1st time in history.

  • Athletes from Australia and the rest of Ocenia have been invited to compete at the 2022 Asian games, for the first time in the history of Asiad.
  • Notably, 2018 Asian games will be held in Jakarta, Capital city of Indonesia.
