1. BSF using grenades to stop Rohingyas

  • The Border Security Force is using chilli and stun grenades to block the entry of Rohingyas fleeing from Myanmar.
  • The BSF has been authorised to use rude and crude methods to stop any infiltration attempts.

2. Petrol prices started falling will continue to fall: Govt

  • He said that the petrol prices will fall further.

3. Senior journalist KJ Singh murdered

  • KJ Singh and his mother were found dead at their residence in Mohali, Punjab.
  • This comes after the murder of two other journalists, Gauri Lankesh and Santanu Bhowmik.

4. KV class 8 students to get tablets

  • The Union Human Resource Development Ministry will provide free tablets to around 5,000 class 8 students from Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country on pilot basis.
  • The devices are aimed at providing students the access to online reading material.
  • A multi-device management software will allow teachers to track the student’s usage.

International News

1. Hurricane Harvey forced the Earth’s crust down

  • Hurricane Harvey is the most powerful storm to hit Texas in over 50 years and flooded Houston with an estimated 125 trillion litres of water.
  • This caused the Earth’s crust to deform and sink by 2 centimetres in the area.

2. Pak successfully tests anti-ship missile

  • Pakistan claimed to have successfully test-fired an air-to-sea anti-ship missile in the North Arabian Sea.
  • The Chief of Naval Staff called the demonstration a testament of Pakistan’s war preparedness.

3. UK Banks to check 7 cr accounts

  • British banks will search the accounts every quarter to check the immigration status of the account holders.
  • Banks will be required to report details of anyone with visa overstayers, those who have absconded from immigration.

4. Trump, Jong-un fighting like kindergarten children: Russia

  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has likened the war of words to a kindergarten fight between children.
  • This comes as Trump called Jong-un a “madman” after he described Trump as a “mentally deranged dotard”.

1. Arvind Subramanian’s term extended for 1 year

  • His term as Chief Economic Adviser has been extended till October 2018.
  • He was named as one of the world’s top 100 global thinkers in 2011.

2. HP may cut over 5,000 jobs

  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise is planning to cut the jobs as an effort to combat increasing competition.
  • The job cuts at the company are likely to affect workers in the US and abroad, including managers.

3. Walmart plans to deliver groceries straight to user’s fridge

  • Walmart said it is testing a service in Silicon Valley to deliver groceries straight to the customer’s refrigerators.
  • It is partnering with August Home which is a provider of smart locks.
  • Delivery drivers will have a preauthorized OTP to unlock the house door.

1. Mary Kom 1st Indian to represent world boxing at IOC forum

  • Five-time world champion MC Mary Kom is picked as International Boxing Associations representative for the IOC Athletes Forum.
  • The forum is held once every two years, bringing together athlete representatives from across the Olympic Movement.

2. Kohli 3rd Indian batsmen to hit 10,000+ runs in India’s wins

  • Kohli achieved the feat during his 92-run knock against Australia in the second ODI.
  • Kohli now has 10,059 runs and is behind Sachin Tendulkar(17,113 runs) and Rahul Dravid(10,860 runs).
