National News

1. Independent MP’s to vote for Kovind

  • Six independent Rajya Sabha MP’s are expected to vote for NDA’s Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind.
  • Kovind will be elected as the next President if he receives two third votes of the electoral college.
  • BJP is trying hard to gain support of more independents and smaller parties to increase Kovind’s lead over his opponent Meira Kumar, Congress’s Presidential Nominee.

2. Deregistered firms to face probe

  • The Registrar of Companies has removed the names of one lakh firms.
  • These firms will be looked for if they are involved in money laundering.
  • Three lakh firms will mostly receive show-cause notice in the following days.

3.India violated the convention : China

  • India and China have been in a standoff for almost a month at the Bhutan tri-junction.
  • ”By entering into Chinese territory and obstructing Chinese troops’ normal activities, India violated the existing convention on the boundary and basic principle of the international law and obstructed peace and stability of the boundary area,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters.

4. Relief for watering holes

  • The Supreme Court said that the liquor ban along the highways was aimed at controlling the drivers of high speeding vehicles from intake of alcohol
  • There are no such issues when the roads are within the city and the Supreme Court said that roads within cities can be denotified.

International News

1.North Korea launches ballistic missile towards Japan

  • South Korean officials said that it is part of a recent string of operations that are aimed at developed a nuclear tipped missile that would reach the US.
  • Japanese government says that the missile was aimed towards Japan’s most economic zone.
  • It is believed to have landed in the Sea of Japan. However, no damage was reported.

2. Syrian forces breach Raqqa’s wall

  • In an attempt to retake the city from the Islamic State, US-backed Syrian forces have breached a wall in Raqqa’s Old City.
  • The city is a hub for jihadist’s group operations.
  • IS took control over the city in 2014 and proclaimed it to be their capital

3.Race to Moon

  • China’s Long March 5 rocket faced an abnormality during the flight and ended up as a failure. This is a severe setback to China’s space program.
  • This paves way for India to move forward in space rankings.

4. Modi’s visit to Israel

  • This is the first time an Indian Prime Minister will visit Israel.
  • The agenda list has 5 issues – co-operation in agriculture, providing India with cutting edge technology, co-operation in space projects, cyber security and enhancing people-to-people contact.

Business News

1 .Banks lose Rs.16770 crores to frauds

  • The financial sector registered a loss of Rs.16770 crores to banking frauds in the last fiscal year
  • RBI report found that this has increased by about 72% in the last five years.

2. Morgan Stanley adds Titan in focus list

  • The brokering firm Morgan Stanley has added Titan(watch and jewellery maker) to its list on expected 2x returns in three years
  • As a result, shares of Titan rose 1.5 percent intraday
  • Tata Motors has been removed from the list.

3. Samsung to start selling recycled Note 7

  • The Galaxy Note FE will go on sale in South Korea for $611, about three-fourth of its original price.
  • Unlike the recalled versions of Note 7, Samsung said Note FE has perfect safety

4. The Fundamentum Partnership

  • Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has partnered with venture capitalist Sanjeev Aggarwal to set up a $100 million fund.
  • It will focus on enduring technology companies in India .Mostly, consumer technology.

Sports News
1. Medvedev registered victory in his debutant Wimbledon 2017 in the first round

  • Medvedev ranks 46 places below the world number 3 Wawrinka.< li>
  • The 21 year old Russian out-performed against Swiss’s three time Grand Slam Champion Stan Wawrinka.

2. Robert Kubica to test again for Renault

  • This is a comeback to Formula 1 for the 32 year old after he was injured in a crash in February 2011.
  • He raced about 76 times in F1 for Sauber and Renault between 2006 and 2010.
