Recommendation 1 from ‘The Hindu’

Article Name:‘Two wheelers and 200 farmers’

By: ‘Subha J Rao’

The article is talking about two youth V. Deepan and R. Muthukumar who set out on a motorcycle adventure across 28 states to visit organic farmers in 23 states of India, Nepal and Bhutan. Both the boys said that everyone they met on their journey was in some way connected to farming and some are not willing to go the organic way until government supported them. They also noted on the way that people who were actually doing really well on organic farming were the ones who had an alternative source of income and the ones who are only dependent on farming are the one who are not doing really well. However, both the boys say that Vivek was a huge inspiration and they spent a month on his self-sufficient farm where everyone pitches in with some work or the other. In the beginning they were told that the journey would be a waste, but they continued any way and as a result they met 200 odd farmers. Also, on the way they ran short of money and as a result they had to opt for cycling, which also made them realize what extra luggage they were carrying.

Summary:

Well, it is the best example of following your dreams. They did it and they achieved it. The things that they have found on their journey are something that you as a reader can read on yourself too. However, what really matters on their journey here are the little things .e.g. the way they carried on even when they were discouraged and how they realized the extra things they were carrying on their journey. This we can take as something that we all need to do when we are sweating it out for some goal, all you need to do is stay focussed.

Recommendation 2 from ‘The New York Times’

Article Name:‘Free speech for computers?’

By: ‘Tim Wu’

The article is talking about free speech for computers? The Article states that the speech for computer sounds like a bizarre idea. However, when a user types in a question in Google search engine, it is the engine that needs to decide about which answer to give. So, in this way all the search engines are speakers. And if in any way government or authorities are trying to control this aspect of the machines, then this is censorship. However, there are two sides to it, one side states that though the humans programmed the computer, it doesn’t give it the constitutional right and there is the other side that somewhat supports the idea. The writer states that if we give computers the right we give to humans, then we elevate our machines above ourselves.

Summary:

Well, putting it this way that computers do the talking sounds something bizarre in itself. However, the idea is amusing. But, as the writer states that it is like giving the same rights to the machines as we give to the humans. However, writer must have missed the point the way Google decides on which answer to give must be decided the way humans have programmed it isn’t it? Then it must be one and the same thing since the beginning isn’t it?

Recommendation 3 from ‘The New York Times’

Article Name:‘Is Facebook a fad? Will our grandchildren tweet’

By: ‘Editorial’

This is the topic in the room for debate. The article states that Facebook will mean different things to different people over the years. In India women protect their marriage ability and in America people learn about things about their family members. Further, the article states that leaving aside the personal things, it is political too, as Facebook and Twitter literally initiated a change in Egypt. However, at the same time it did not give the revolution a sustainability that it needed.

Summary:

It is a topic that should have been discussed ages ago. Facebook and Twitter are no doubt one of the most innovative platforms of our times. However, the utility of it all accept for knowledge sharing and entertainment is still not known. But again, it can mean different things to different people.
