Recommendation 1 from ‘The Times of India’

Article Name:‘An elephant tale’

By: ‘Meeta Chaitanya’

The article states that being Indians we are so used to the word scam that almost everywhere we expect the public officers to be corrupt and it is not surprising anymore. Article points out that in the time of Mayawati’s ‘rule there have been umpteen scams and as if that was not enough, bungling of money has been discovered in the making of the much talked about elephants. And yet nothing will be done about it, politicians will remain instated and it will happen all over again.

Summary:

Until all the public money is lying in personal bank accounts of the politicians this can never be stopped. Of course, capital punishment is just too much, but anything else is too less for politicians who squander away people’s money. But an example has to be set for corrupt politicains as well.

Recommendation 2 from ‘Foreign Policy’

Article Name:‘Comrode Locke’

By: ‘Anne Henochowicz’

The article states that China is not able to comprehend as to what to make of the new Chinese-American ambassador to Beijing Gary Locke. The reason cited for this is that he seems to be very unconventional sort of an ambassador, as he buys his own coffee whereas in China government officials do not buy their own coffee. Further, he himself has said that despite being of Chinese origin he supports American values. Also, he was criticised for poking his nose in domestic matter of another country when he brought Chen Guangcheng to U.S. Embassy

Summary:

Of course, from all that we have read about China, it seems normal if the country is all restless about this man in question. It becomes even more obvious because he seems to be a very liberal man whereas China seems to be a very uptight country. His image might have shocked the whole of the country.

Recommendation 3 from ‘The Daily Beast’

Article Name:‘Who kept Bin Laden alive?’

By: ‘David Frum’

The article is talking about former Pakistan ambassador to U.S. Husain Haqqani’s statement in which he has said that Pakistan’s priority should be finding out and convicting those people who aided Osama Bin Laden to stay in Pakistan. However, according to him it seems that Pakistan’s priority are somewhere else. Also, this should be the topic of debate whereas the debate has shifted to Pakistan’s sovereignty being endangered by America.

Summary:

Of course, no one in Pakistan is talking about as to who aided Laden. But then that is obvious. However, the point of sovereignty being endangered needs to be debated on. It was America’s responsibility to tie up with the country. America doesn’t rule Pakistan.
